We like to keep you guys updated in our work as much as possible, so here is a status update about our new release cycle that indeed will follow Ubuntu’s (Canonical) release cycle, meaning the next version from us will be supported for many years to come.

We are in the process of building up the new version and things are going well, actually I am writing this on the new version. We have one major problem though, and that is an very unstable installer that seemingly crashes at random. We have a hard time debugging it as flutter (ubuntu’s installer code base) are giving unclear errors. We are thinking that we may have some problems with our theming, mainly our XML code for the layout, so we need to dig into some of our code and troubleshoot.

Update! We have now troubleshooted the theme and it seems to be fine, we have a theory that the troubles might actually be that we installed a few more kernel modules and the generic kernel it selves, something that lead to having two startup instructions, the system should be able to figure out everything on it own self, but we will make sure by removing the kernel headers and modules. Actually we have decided to simply start over, it will be easy for us to do that anyway as we have coded a few scripts to set everything up correctly. Now again, openness is important for us, that is the reason you can read about stupid mistakes as well.

Now, when it comes to a release (even alpha) we are expecting that we need at least a a few weeks up to a couple of months before anything can be released. We want this version to be rock solid and problem free. Until then you can download the mantic version from here
