The beta for focuspoint linux Q1b1 is now released.
First of all, this is beta, back up your files before even trying out a live session!
There’s been quite a few changes from the alpha to the beta, they where all necessary.
There’s really to many changes to list them all, but here are some of them:
* Added gnome’s language selector which where missing
* Added the xfce panel profiles application.
* Tweaked the default look and feel
* Added plank again (dock tool) we are not sure yet whether to run with plank or a second panel (as a dock) at the full release of FocusPoint Linux. There’s even a third possible option, which is xfce4-docklike-plugin (not installed)
* Added our own packages and installed them by default (prefixed with focuspoint-linux-*) all except focuspoint-linux-extras which has a couple themes and panel profiles so far, the extras package is meant to be the package fo fun things as themes, plugins, etc. Feel free to install that package. The ubiquity package is not installed as it should only be installed on the live image, hence it’s not installed.
* Added support for more printers and scanners.
* Added a few more xfce plugins
* Finally we added a few more settings apps for system tweaking, and did our own tweaks of the system.

Being that we are closing in on our first release we are sort of dipping our toes a bit and getting a feel for what works for us and what doesn’t work.

Known issues: There’s some visual glitches under the install, but it’s just visual.
Sometimes previously to the beta the live system would not do a shutdown or restart, we have not been able to reproduce that right now, so hopefully that is gone.
Font hinting is not activated (go to Settings/Looks and the Type/Font tab and apply it there. We suggest changing to slight under hinting and RGB under points)

We are now really at feature freeze, but we are searching for a good solution to handle color profiles, we hope to find a perfect solution before we totally lock down before the full release.
